Danielle Doetsch

Visual Storyteller + Mixed Media Painter

I create layered, mixed media paintings that explore transformation, connection, wonder, and the stories we carry within us. Combining realism and abstraction with texture, symbolism, and unexpected materials, I create work that invites viewers to pause, feel, and discover something of themselves within the story.

WORTHY OF GOLD

The story behind the work.

I created Worthy of Gold as part of the Society of Professional Artists' Masterpiece Challenge. Inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, the piece explores the idea that what has been broken does not have to be hidden or discarded, but can become part of what makes something beautiful and valuable.

The accompanying film documents the process of creating the piece while sharing more of the personal journey that led me to become an artist.

This idea became especially personal to me. I began painting seriously after a life-changing car accident, during a long and difficult recovery. I had never imagined painting would become part of my life, but during a time when I was struggling to find my way forward, it became my saving grace. Creating gave me a place to process, heal, and reconnect with a part of myself I didn't know I had lost. What began as a way to get through a difficult season eventually became the creative life I never knew I was meant to have.

Beyond the Canvas

Beyond the Canvas

My creative practice extends beyond the traditional canvas. I love finding new ways to bring art into unexpected spaces, whether I’m creating a painting live at an event, collaborating with a local business, or developing work for an exhibition.

Live painting has become a particularly meaningful part of my practice. Creating in the presence of an audience allows the energy of the space, the people watching, and the experience itself to become part of the work.

I’m drawn to opportunities that allow art to become an experience rather than simply an object on a wall, and I love discovering new ways for creativity to connect with people.

What’s Next

I’m entering a period of deeper experimentation. I’m looking for the freedom to explore new materials, textures, processes, scale, and unexpected combinations, pushing beyond what I already know how to do and allowing new ideas to shape the work.

I want to follow curiosity, try ideas that might fail, and see what happens when I give myself permission to go further. I’m excited by the possibility of discovering new ways to tell stories and create work that feels both unexpected and deeply personal.

At the heart of that exploration, I want to continue creating work that makes people feel something: work that inspires, creates connection, and gives someone a moment of feeling seen.
